Exporting your technology, creativity, service or products?

Latin America welcomes the advanced technologies and innovation that Singapore can offer. Having slowly been evolving from her third-world status, Latin America is getting herself groomed to be more active player in the international arena. If you have a technology, service or product that can really help build up their economy, we can see how we can help you bring them over or assist you to find a suitable importer. With value-added services, reliability and patience, we can get out of the price competition and compete in where your strength is.

Importing from Latin America

This can really be a worthwhile venture. Being rich in land, agriculture, natural resources and CULTURE, Latin America has a lot to offer to Singapore (and Asia). In fact we have a list of manufacturers and exporters of fine wine, fruits, handicrafts, etc. just waiting for genuine importers. Bridge SA screens through them and makes sure you get in touch with "real" manufacturers or exporters. The next thing we can do is to connect you to them, or if you prefer to work through us, we'll do just that.

Latin America, is it worth your time and effort?

Quoting Professor S Jayakumar, Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Law, in his speech at the FEALEC Young Parliamentarians Forum, he said the following with regards to business with Latin America:

"In Latin America, the key economies in the region are expected to continue growing at a healthy 3.5-5% for the next 4 years. With its rich natural resources, Latin America has become a leading producer of metals and minerals, oil and gas, marine products as well as agriculture and meat products, etc..."

"There is significant untapped potential in the economic relationship between Latin America and Asia. Fast growing demand for commodities has led to a significant increase in Latin America-Asia trade. China's imports from Latin America have increased by more than 600% over the last five years to reach US$21.7 billion."

Mercosur, the Customs Union comprising Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, has been successful in linking up with other associate members from Latin America. The Brazilian National Development Bank's US$500 million worth of loans for projects in neighbouring South American countries would help stimulate infrastructure development targeted towards greater regional connectivity."

"Other Asian countries are also aggressively entering the region."

"Latin American companies are increasingly seizing opportunities in Asia.... However, overall, the Latin American presence in Asia is still small and there are many more opportunities waiting to be exploited."

What about the challenges?

A recent research done by Brookyln Institute in August 2006 outlines the following challenges in Latin America (or LATAM):

First, high inequality, partly related to historical relations between Europeans, indigenous and Afro-descendants, but reinforced by continuing dualism between the formal and informal sectors.

Second, education, where the region suffers from a serious "secondary deficit" and weak educational quality.

Third, the business climate, which exhibits continuing problems with inappropriate regulation, while infrastructure provision has suffered from cutbacks to public provision, only partly compensated for by increased private investment.

And, finally, Latin America's future sources of international comparative advantage: whether in natural resource-based exports or in manufacturing, the region needs to improve performance in mobilizing knowledge and technology. Read the entire LATAM report here. BUT...

Before you are being put off by the challenges currently facing LATAM, we hope you will read on to see if they what they REALLY are. Every economy has a unique set of needs. But needs create opportunities. Click here to find out the secret to Latin America.
